Carol Fitzsimons
Spun fiber is an ideal, yet somewhat unconventional medium that I use to
capture the textures, colors and fluidity of the ever-changing
landscape of my rural Cape Cod home. My fiber "paintings" allow me to
share the beauty and tranquility of this unique landscape, and the
wildlife and plant life it nurtures, with those who appreciate the
natural world.
Inspired by my grandmothers skilled needlework and embroidery and a desire to paint, I developed my own technique by combining the two arts. Each piece starts as a rough painting onto which fibers--chosen for their color, texture, and luster--are applied. The result is a fiber “painting†that is an expression of my deep appreciation for nature and the outdoors.

My
most recent work has increased in intricacy as well as detail and has
expanded to include the bucolic and pastoral landscapes of New York’s
Finger Lakes Region.

Carol Fitzsimons received a BA in Religion from Wells College in Aurora
NY and pursued a professional career as an Insurance Underwriter in New
York City, Boston and Los Angeles.
Carol vacationed with her family on Cape Cod, MA since the mid 1950’s and moved there permanently with her husband after retiring in 2013 where she now pursues her artwork on a full-time basis.
Carol’s work has been accepted at juried exhibits at the Fuller Craft Museum ( Brockton, MA), Cultural Center of Cape Cod (Yarmouth, MA), Cotuit Center for the Arts (Cotuit, MA), Creative Arts Center (Chatham, MA), Provincetown Art Association and Museum (Provincetown, MA) and Brookline Arts Center (Brookline, MA) and is currently exhibited and for sale at Curiouser and Curiouser (Wellfleet, MA) and Imagine (Skaneateles, NY). In 2016, she was accepted as a member of the Society of Cape Cod Craftsmen - one of the oldest professional fine craft organizations in New England.
